1893-94 Season Summary

Highlights

Leicester Fosse and Loughborough were among the pre-season favorites to win the Midland League title, having both strengthened their squads with significant signings. To the frustration of Leicestershire football followers, Burton Wanderers just kept winning and in any other season the Fosse on their form would certainly have almost certainly secured the title.

Castle Donington won both the Junior Cup and Challenge Shield. The Junior Cup was awarded to them after losing to Hathern Victoria in the final, following a controversial decision by Leicestershire Football Association.

Leicester Fosse won the Kettering & District Charity Cup competition.

Sheffield United – the world’s oldest “United” football club – played Leicester Fosse at Walnut-street for the first time. United who were 2 short of their full football League team were beaten 4-1 in front of 6,000 spectators.

Leicester Fosse and Loughborough entertained several other Football League clubs – Derby County and Middlesbrough Ironopolis.

The Northamptonshire and Leicestershire League was formed.
