1894-95 Season Summary

Highlights

Leicester Fosse became the first Leicestershire club to be elected to the Second Division of the Football League after finishing runner-up in the Midland League. Leicester’s first-ever Football League game was a 4–3 defeat at Grimsby Town on 1 September 1894. They registered their first League win the following week, against Rotherham Town at Filbert Street.

The Fosse beat Notts Olympic  13–0 in an FA Cup qualifying game – still a club record score!

It took a marathon three matches before Football League Leicester Fosse overcame Midland League Loughborough in the Final Qualifying Round of the English Cup. In R1 they were well beaten by Bury at Gigg Lane.

The Fosse also proved too strong for the Luffs in the semi-final stage of the Kettering & District Charity Cup.

Loughborough won the Midland League and were elected to the Football league.

Benefit matches were played in aid of the Audley mining disaster fund.
