The United Counties League in the 1890s was a short-lived league of football clubs in the Midlands and Sheffield which ran in addition (and concurrently) to the Football League.
The competition only ran for two seasons, 1893-94 and 1894-95.
In late May 1897 “clubs interested in the Sheffield and Derbyshire Football League” decided to form an entirely new United Counties League, comprising eight teams – including the reserve teams of Leicester Fosse and Loughborough. It ran for just one season and was disbanded following an invitation by the Midland League to accept the reserve teams of Derby County, Leicester Fosse, Loughborough, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United.
