FLOODLIGHT MATCH & BICYCLE EVENT
BICYCLE RACE. Shortly after seven o’clock, a one-mile bicycle race was commenced. There were 11 entries for the event, but only five put in an appearance. These were W. A. Thompson, 180 yards start; J. Grudgings, 150 yards; G. H. Upton, 130 yards; J. H. Taylor, 20 yards; and W. Wood (Whitwick), scratch. After a good race, Wood was the winner by nearly a lap, Taylor being second, and Grudgings third.
FOOTBALL, Loughborough F.C…. and the Leicester Alert F.C…. Loughborough won the toss, and the kick-off was made by Perkins, the first goal being obtained by J. Cartwright. After a spirited game in which the splendid kicking of Gulliver, Bromhead, and the capital dribbling of Turner, were remarkably conspicuous, the Loughborough team won, they having scored five goals to none. The Loughborough team comprised Messrs. Pickering, T. B. Cartwright, J. Cartwright, J. Perkins, G. Bromhead, W. Cockayne, T. Mills, W. Harris, T. Bowley, G. J. Gulliver, J. Turner, and W. Tyler.
