This is the earliest plan known of the Walnut-street (Filbert-street) ground, which was published (Leicester Journal – Friday 18 August 1893) prior to the start of the 1893-94 season. Spectators entered the ground at one end of Filbert Street side and exited at the other. There was only a single grandstand, which covered approximately two thirds the length of the pitch – divided into a members and public area separated by a section allocated to the press. There were open stands behind each goal, with a raised earth bank along the remaining side, opposite the grandstand.
The sketch above was published by the Yorkshire Evening Post in February 1907, with the following caption:
Playing area is 115 yards by 70 yards. The covered stand is 90 yards long and holds 1020 people. The total accommodation of the enclosure is 17,000. The largest “gate” recorded was on December 1, this season [1906-07], when 16,500 attended to witness play West Bromwich Albion. The receipts to £421.
