The first reported School’s football in Leicester took place in February 1893. The football “novelty” was staged at the Fosse ground, Walnut-street, between School boys of Sheffield and Leicester. The match was arranged by the Leicestershire Scholastic Association, to popularise Association Football amongst scholars. It must have been successful, because a Leicester School’s League was established for the start of the 1893-94 season. The League later became affiliated with the Leicestershire Football Association.
